Well, I wasn’t expecting (in less than a year) to see Frank pop up once again for releasing solo material. While he still rides on the wave of success that his ‘Blond’ LP created for him, Frank returned to the scene late Friday night/Saturday morning with his latest single, ‘Chanel’.
The overall sound of the track does feel like a leftover from ‘Blonde’, yet, that’s nothing bad. It’s refreshing and nice to hear Frank is still using minimal instruments in his songs and using his voice as more of the driving force. Dark, slow melodic keys and lo-fi drums bring the song in and when Franks’ voice swims on; I just shudder with excitement. Frank also explores unfaithfulness, wealth, double standards and still adjusting to a life that demands so much more of him. While his vocals don’t sound mixed well, his lyrics and harmonies used throughout the track are another indication that Frank is still one of the contemporary artists that has to have an eye kept on.
